Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort Sharpens Kids' Sushi Skills
Lake Las Vegas, Nev. (PRWEB) April 7, 2008 -- Emily Post never resorted to covering etiquette basics for sushi, but Chef Osamu "Fuji" Fujita, Master Sushi Chef of Loews Hotels Resort at Lake Las Vegas, is ready to tackle the job with his brand-new "SushiSKool" for kids visiting the Las Vegas Resort destination. Held on Saturdays throughout the summer, the one-hour class is designed to teach the next generation of sushi lovers (ages 5 through teens) the basics of ordering, using chopsticks, eating different types of sushi and sushi etiquette. Priced at $20 per child, the SushiSKool classes will be held at the Sushi Bar at Marssa restaurant, Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. For accompanying moms, Chef Fuji's "Mommy Maki" add-on includes wine and an assortment of maki rolls (priced at $25 per person with a child in the class).
Participants will sample gari (pickled ginger), wasabi (Japanese horseradish), shoyu (soy sauce) and sip ocha (green tea) while mastering the finer points of chopstick strategy. Kids will take home a "Sushi Savvy" gift bag filled with a SushiSKool t-shirt, Chef Fuji's Guide to Sushi, chopsticks, a CD of photos from the class and a discount card for mom and dad to enjoy dinner in Marssa, Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort's 5 star restaurant.
A third generation sushi chef whose father was the personal chef for the Emperor of Japan, Chef Fuji began his career as an apprentice to one of only three master chefs in Tokyo. He is the only sushi chef in the US to earn the Japanese Chefs Association's recognition of achievement in 2006-2007. Chef Fuji is the Corporate Sushi Chef for Loews Hotels and he can be found behind the sushi bar at Marssa at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort serving innovative dishes such as Omaka Se, Tamari Scallop, or Cajun Albacore Tataki that delight the senses and satisfy every guests taste.
The SushiSKool program is one of many children's programs and amenities offered at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. The lobby features a Kid's Concierge desk, with counselors waiting at check-in to answer kid's requests and hand them a welcome gift as their parents take care of business. The resort's Activity Pool and Kid's Club offers supervised fun and games for children, plus Dive-In Movies (poolside movies) throughout the summer for the whole family to enjoy. A special Activity Pool cabana, the Fisher-Price® KidBana, offers a place in the shade for the little ones, and is steps away from a splash in the pool; the KidBana is filled with current Fisher-Price toys and games, a flat-screen television with kid-friendly movies, and special snacks and drinks for children (for an optional fee).
Additionally, as part of Loews Loves Kids, a multi-faceted program addressing the practical and playful aspects of traveling with children, Loews Lake Las Vegas features special "On Call for Kids" lending closet filled with practical and playful travel necessities, such as games, books, car seats, strollers, night lights, potty seats, baby bath tub, baby blankets, and outlet protectors.
Marssa features a fresh mix of Osaka style cuisine and western flavors in the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort. Executive Master Sushi Chef Fuji has created a unique menu that offers guests the opportunity to sample his unique approach to Pacific Rim cuisine while relaxing in the warm and inviting dining room or at the sushi bar. The restaurant also offers an extensive wine and sake list to match the flavors of Chef Fuji's innovative cuisine. Do You Like Sushi?
If you are not the biggest fan about sushi, you are not the only one. What I do not understand is why people say they do not like sushi when they have not even tried it before. As with most foods, there are several variations and different ways to cook it. All it takes is a little bit of courage to try out the different variations and who knows, you may find something that you like.
